      <image:caption>Je me permets d'être transparente ici, car c'est ce que je veux que ma marque représente : l'honnêteté, l'humanité et le fait de ne pas cacher les aspects de nous-mêmes qui sont difficiles à nommer. Lorsque j'ai perdu mes parents, je n'ai pas ressenti ce que je pensais être le chagrin. Je ne pleurais pas, je ne m'effondrais pas, j'étais engourdie. Complètement engourdie. Et cet engourdissement me terrifiait. Je me souviens m'être mise en colère contre moi-même parce que je n'arrivais pas à pleurer, comme si l'absence de larmes signifiait l'absence d'amour. Je pensais que ne rien ressentir signifiait que je ne m'en souciais pas assez, ou qu'il y avait quelque chose qui n'allait pas chez moi. Mais la vérité, c'est que l'engourdissement, c'est le chagrin. C'est la façon dont le corps vous protège lorsque la douleur est trop forte pour être supportée d'un seul coup. Ce que je ne comprenais pas à l'époque, c'est que le chagrin ne se manifeste pas de manière ordonnée. Il ne suit pas les règles que nous imaginons. Parfois, il se traduit par des larmes, parfois par de la colère, parfois par le silence, et parfois par une sorte de blocage émotionnel qui donne l'impression que quelqu'un a mis en pause tout votre monde intérieur. L'engourdissement n'est pas un manque de sentiments, c'est un excès de sentiments, qui s'accumulent tous en même temps, sans savoir où aller.</image:caption>

Cela ne signifie pas que vous êtes brisé, mais simplement que vous êtes humain. La perte nous transforme d'une manière que nous ne choisissons pas, et il faut du temps au corps et à l'esprit pour comprendre ce qui nous a été enlevé. Si vous lisez ceci en essayant de donner un sens à votre propre deuil, je veux que vous sachiez ceci : vous n'êtes pas en retard, vous n'échouez pas et vous n'êtes pas seul. Vous traversez une épreuve immense. Et le temps qu'il vous faudra pour la surmonter sera le temps qu'il vous faut.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>I am being transparent here because that is what I want my brand to represent: honesty, humanity, and not hiding the parts of ourselves that are difficult to name. When I lost my parents, I didn't feel what I thought grief should feel like. I wasn't crying, I wasn't breaking down, I was numb. Completely numb. And that numbness terrified me. I remember getting angry with myself because I couldn't cry, as if the absence of tears meant the absence of love. I thought that not feeling anything meant that I didn't care enough, or that there was something wrong with me. But the truth is, numbness is grief. It's the body's way of protecting you when the pain is too much to bear all at once. What I didn't understand at the time was that grief doesn't manifest itself in an orderly fashion. It doesn't follow the rules we imagine. Sometimes it comes out as tears, sometimes as anger, sometimes as silence, and sometimes as a kind of emotional blockage that makes it feel like someone has paused your entire inner world. Numbness isn't a lack of feelings, it's an excess of feelings, all piling up at once, with nowhere to go.</image:caption>

I was angry at everybody for continuing as normal, even though my life had lost its sense of normality.
